The Snappy Dresser was invented by a Pennsylvania woman with a congenital birth defect who became fed up with wasting her money on assistive devices that never worked.

Andrea DePalma envisioned a time when she would no longer need to ask others for assistance in reaching, bending and dealing with everyday routine tasks and activities. After years of waiting, trying and buying numerous disability aides that never worked, Andrea brought the concept of inventing her own assistive technology device to her cousin. Together, they designed, developed and manufactured a device that allows both disabled and non-disabled persons alike to perform a multitude of tasks in a single snap.

“It’s a dream come true”, Andrea said, after holding the finished product. “The Snappy-Dresser™ personal assistant not only restores my freedom to actively enjoy life, but it also allows me to discretely deal with personal and routine daily tasks without being asked embarrassing questions. Its lightweight design, weighing approximately 5 ounces, also makes it easy to handle and portable,” she said.

When asked what makes the Snappy-Dresser™ personal assistant unique, Andrea replied, “Our Snappy-Dresser™ personal assistant is steel constructed with a 1” diameter telescopic twist locking device that expands from 16.5” to 30” for easy handling while discretely collapsing so that people can travel, shop and visit with ease. It also has interchangeable snap-on attachments" that assist with a variety of tasks. According to Andrea, “These snap-on attachments not only aid persons with bathroom, dressing, zipper and footwear tasks, but also aid in reaching and retrieving metallic and non-metallic items that may have fallen to the floor. The tasks are endless.”

Vincent Vallone, Andrea’s cousin, credits Andrea’s success thus far to attitude, perseverance, determination and sheer will. “Andrea amazes everyone with her accomplishments, so when she reached out to me with this concept, I just had to assist her in designing this product,” Vincent said. “Initially, when Andrea described this idea, I could foresee the benefits it had in helping the disabled community and the elderly get along in life, but after I designed and made the Snappy-Dresser™ personal assistant, I found my own needs benefiting from this product as well.” According to Vincent, “My entire family uses the Snappy-Dresser™ personal assistant everyday to reach and pick up items and put on their shoes. I found this device restores dignity and independence and benefits everyone who uses it because ‘we can all use a little help in our daily lives’,” he added.
