Disability Form, How to Qualify for Disability

In order for someone to qualify for disability, that person must complete several steps, which includes an application and interview.

In order to qualify for disability, or social security disability, individuals must complete several different steps. There are two main sets of criteria in which individuals must get through in order to be approved. However, the last and final step often determines whether or not an individual qualifies for social security benefits.

How to Qualify for Disability

The first set of criteria does not revolve around the individual’s condition. It only pertains to the individual’s social security disability eligibility, or disability eligibility regarding the basic standards. These standards include issues such as; being out of work for a certain length of time and not earning more than what is allowed, also known as the SGA.

Social Security Disability

The second set of criteria solely pertains to the individual’s medical condition, or psychological condition. The office will contact an SSA field office and request that an application is processed for disability benefits. After the request is in progress, the office will set up an appointment to do an interview. This interview is either done in person or over the phone, depending on both the condition and situation.

Disability Interview

Following the completion of the applicant’s paperwork and interview, the file will then be transferred over to a state level agency, which is completely in charge of evaluating the claim for disability. In most states, the agency is often refereed to as the Disability Determination Services. This person will be making the final decision on whether the applicant is approved for Social Security Disability Benefits or not.

What Happens at DDS?

An examiner from Disability Determination Services will review the applicant’s file and investigate the situation thoroughly. The examiner will look for proof, as he or she orders medical records from doctors and reviews letters that state proof of the applicant’s actual disability.

What Determines Whether or Not a Person Qualifies for Disability?

If the applicant’s medical records clearly indicate that the individual is physically and or mentally unable to work any kind of job, then the applicant will be granted social security disability benefits. If the medical records indicate that the individual is in fact capable of working a certain type of job, the applicant will be denied social security disability benefits.

When fighting for social security disability benefits, it is essential to have medical records that clearly state the individual’s disability. Having solid proof within medical records is often the key to winning a social security or ssi disability claim.
