It takes a special kind of person to be a personal care attendant. It can be very frustrating to work in a job that very obviously has no room for advancement. That's why many consumers of PCA services suggest giving your attendants "perks" every now and then.
A simple Thank You at the end of each shift is a simple gesture that will let your attendant know that they are doing a good job and how much you appreciate the job they're doing.
Remember your attendant's birthday and get them a small gift of appreciation. Do the same thing at Christmas. The gift doesn't have to be big and extravagant or anything expensive. Just something simple that will let your attendant know you appreciate what they do for you.
My current attendant is such a wonderful employee compared to the others I've had that I try to give her little perks all the time. If I need her to take me on any errands, I will either buy her lunch or give her extra gas money (if we take her vehicle). Ifmy attendant needs time off, depending on how long she needs off, I will not take the hours away.
The whole point is to show your attendants that you appreciate that they are working for you and that you value the job they are doing.
What are some of the things that you do for your PCA's?
