The Center for Human Rights at American University is offering a live webcast of the United Nations disability rights conference.

On March 30, 2007, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities opened for signature and ratification. Historically, the United States has been a world leader in the recognition of disability rights.

The disability, human rights and international development communities will come together on April 9, 2007 to examine the Convention, its guarantees and its implications for United States law and foreign policy. The Center for Human Rights at American University, Washington College of Law, is sponsoring a conference to consider strategies for encouraging US government and public support for the Convention and examine how we can ensure continued US leadership in the international protection of disability rights.

The Center for Human Rights will be sponsoring a free webcast of this conference from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, April 9. The link for this webcast is not up and running on the website yet, but will be by Monday. You can access the webcast link at the Center for Human Rights website.

Once you have clicked this link, the email address for the conference will be provided. This address will allow viewers to email questions to the different panelists throughout the conference. A complete listing of speakers and their presentations is also available on the Center for Human Rights website.

The webcast of the conference will be available on the Center for Human Rights website indefinitely. If you can’t tune in on Monday, stop by another day and check it out. It is sure to be very informative and thought-provoking.
