» velvet_tears - perthes at age5, now I'm 26 hey everyone, I'm new here and I just thought I would try to find out a little more about Perthes, I'm wanting to start a family and I was reading on a different website and they said something about women that have had perthes they are more likely to have a miscarriage, than women that have never had it before and I just want to know if I have been informed correcly or not. -- posted by velvet_tears » anonymouse75 - perthes at age5, now I'm 26 In response to perthes at age5, now I'm 26 posted by velvet_tears:
I also had perthes as a child. I have gone on to have two pregnancies that went to term - no miscarriages, no premature births or stillborns. I did have some bleeding at around 14 weeks with both and had to take it easy throughout. My son was born by emergency C-section 15 days overdue - he got stuck in the birth canal and so they had to rescue him. He was and still is, extremely broad across the shoulders, so chances are I would have had problems with him, perthes hip or not! My daughter was a natural birth and she was 10 days overdue! Son is now 13 years old and daughter is 11 years old. My daughter has perthes and I have had some in depth discussions about her chances of carrying a pregnancy, giving birth naturally etc too, with her specialist. She has had bi-lateral pelvic osteotomies and an external fixator for perthes - his response is that if she needs a C-section, she would have needed it anyway without perthes. Perthes does not affect a woman's fertility and ability to fall pregnant, although the stress of wondering how you would cope, could be a factor there. She also, will more than likely need partial bed rest throughout a pregnancy, but thats only a possiblity. If you are interested in information about perthes go to www.perthesnz.bravehost.com and share your story on the message board there. I'm still working on the teen and adult sections of it, but the glossary and other information are pretty comprehensive. -- posted by anonymouse75 » chadio72 - perthes at age5, now I'm 26 In response to perthes at age5, now I'm 26 posted by anonymouse75:

-- posted by chadio72 » anthony320 - My son just diagnose with Legg Pertheses I have a 13 year old son that was diagnosed with this disease. He was a very active kid and is on the small thin side. We first thought it was a sports injury. He was playing tackle football and was tackled to the ground and three guys piled on top of him causing immediate pain and a limp.We thought it was just a pull or something and let it go. Well all through baseball season he was not himself, he lost his quickness and speed. After seeing three doctors and seven months he was diagnosed with this Disease. We had a specialist at the Schnieder children Hospital examine him. He has a minor limp and the xrays show partial damage to the bone ball. The doctor told us we had to wait for four months to get an idea of what phase this thing is in.We are mentally and physically crushed by this news and was wondering if anyone had any input. I have read many of the posts here but not many mention a 13 year old boy with this disease and what likely will be his faith. The kid is heartbroken he can not play sports for at least a year, he was a tremendous baseball player. I asked about vitamins, but the doctor said nothing will help this, you have to wait it out. My heart is broken just knowing my son has something eating him and I cant do a thing about it. -- posted by jo_frank » karin78 - perthes in adults/seniors My father had perthes as a child. He got treated I believe around the age of 7 for about 2 years. Now he is in his early 50's and is having tremendous pain in his hip. He still works but only 2-3 times a week because the pain is so strong. He has shooting pains from his hip all the way down his leg. I cannot imagine the pain but he is not a man that complains and when he does it must be really bad. He went to his regualar physician about 2 years ago, they did some xrays but said they couldn't find anything wrong with him. Does anyone know if there is any treatment for adults/seniors. When I look it up there is only info on children and nothing for adults. If anyone can direct me to some info I would really apreciate it.
