I hope things are going well with your son's treatment since you posted. My name's Josh and I'm a 19 year old sophomore in college. When I was 6 I was diagnoised with Perthes disease and went through three years of physical therapy, leg casts and braces, and lots of docotr's visits. Thankfully, at age 9 I was able to walk and have full activity with no restrictions. Today there are no signs that I ever had Perthes disease. It is a long process and I know circumstances are different with your son being older, but hang in there - your doctor is right, it takes time.
