I am a 54 year old woman who had perthes as a seven year old child. I too have been having a great deal of pain over the last couple of years. My pain is also all the way down my leg. I have been seeing an orthpedic doctor and they are recommending that I may be a candidate for the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing procedure. I just had the bone scan done and I am currently awaiting my appointment for the results. I wish your father well and my best advice is that if his doctor says nothing is wrong...find another doctor or at best an orthpedic doctor. There is a website for the Birmingham Hip Procedure...it's very good and perhaps it will be helpful. Best Wishes
